My New Area! (Week 25 In The Field)

Well everybody, I have arrived safely to La Jara Colorado! This is where I will be for the next 6 weeks or maybe more. My new address is:

     Elder Andrew Greer
     PO Box 361
     La Jara, Colorado 81140

For anybody that would like to mail me (hint hint). So my new area is a lot different from my last. I live in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by mountains. Tons of farm land out here, and no city haha. I live in what used to be a members garage, that they changed into a living quarters for us. I'll have my parents post pics on my blog.

It is very windy, and very cold here, but the open space is beautiful and there is a lot of work to be done here. I live in a town where everybody knows everybody, and everybody is related haha. The members here are awesome and they actually have a desire to do missionary work! My ward mission leader is awesome, and knows how to get things done, and my bishop, haven't really got to know him yet, but he seems like a great guy! Everybody here is so nice and helpful towards one another. My new companion, Elder Miyamoto, is such a great guy, and he is one stud of a missionary. I am so excited to be working with him in my new area.

Okay, so my area is really big, so we get a car, a ford Fuzion. It is so nice to have a car again, I really miss it, plus we need one because our area is more spread out than others. So I am going to be brief because I don't have much time, I'm sorry about that. But when I got in, I unpacked everything and got settled. The next day we had to go help a member with service, we chopped wood for him. Then we helped another member put up wood trimmings in an add on to his house where he's going to make saddles. That was actually really fun. Never have been able to do this kind of stuff before haha.

That night we had a lesson with our investigator named Cheryl Vance. She was a member many years ago and now she wants to be re-baptized so she can be sealed to her family. She's an older lady, super nice and will talk your ear off haha.

On Friday we had district meeting and I got to meet the new district! I have a pair of sisters and another pair of elders in my district. Both are a training companionship. Reminds me of when I was being trained, weird to think I have been out longer than quite a few missionaries now. Anyways, I love my new district, all them are super fun and great missionaries!

After we helped finish putting up wood trimmings for a member we headed off to dinner. On Saturday we had district service. We all helped a member move out of her old place and into her new one. Got to know my new district even better during that.

After, we had to bike to an appointment because we're really low on miles. It took an hour to get there and the wind was blowing against us the whole time. It was hard, but we were building up our leg muscles. :) Once we got there, we helped a member set up a family mission. That went really well, and it was nice to meet some more of the members.

On Sunday we got to go to church and Finally get to meet everybody! I have a pretty big ward and the members are really great! I live super close to the Church building, so all we have to do is walk a block. After church we went proselyting and thats when we tracted into our new investigator Danny Ramerez. Super nice guy and he accepted a Book of Mormon, and an invitation to read and pray about it. We have a return appointment with him this Friday!

After that, we had dinner with our ward mission leader and his family, the Tibbits. They are super cool, I cannot wait to start working with him, he really knows how to get the job done.

Anyways, I got to go now but I hope everybody has a good week and stay safe! Love you all, from your favorite elder,

Elder Greer :)

Big News!! (Week 24 In The Field)

So transfers are this Wednesday and today I found out that I am moving to an area called Manassa, way out in the middle of nowhere! Crazy to think that I am actually leaving this area, I am seriously going to miss it here, but I know that wherever the Lord needs me is where I have to go, so I just have to trust in Him.

As for my current companion he is leaving also, but not as far as me haha. Sister Gallegos will be getting a new set of missionaries, not just your regular old elders this time, but she will be getting sister missionaries now! She is going to enjoy that very much I think. :) I'm really going to miss it here but it's time to move on and see more of Colorado. Oh, and not only that, but my new companion is another poly! His name is Elder Miyamoto, he's from Hawaii again, only this time he's part Japanese! At this point I wouldn't be surprised if all of my companions from here on out are polys  hahaha! Anyways, I have mixed feelings about all this. It will kinda feel like I'm leaving home again, but maybe not near as emotional. Anyways, I'm sure you guys want to hear how my week was now, so I'll move on. :)

So Tuesday, unfortunately, we had to stay in due to a massive storm that came in. The wind speed was crazy that day and the snow never stopped falling haha. So on Wednesday, because we were running out of ideas on what we could do, we decided to go tracking. We picked a road and knocked on every single door hoping that someone would answer, but no one did, I kid you not... Until we hit the last door on the street. When we got to the last door, someone finally answered! We told him who we were and why we were here and he seemed really interested! He told us to come back! Now unfortunately, we weren't able to go back and see him, but we will let the new sisters in our ward know about this guy. :)

On Thursday something really interesting happened. So we decided to go visit a less active who usually is never home, but he was that day, and let us in! He was a nice guy, however he is a big science guy and he doesn't believe God exists anymore. We tried to consult with him and bring up his baptism and ask him about it but he would change the subject quickly. We were really nice to him though, and he told us we could come back, so thats a good thing! :)

Friday we had meetings that took up most of our day, and Saturday was a really hard day. We went out at 10 am and had no success the whole day. We spent most of it biking in super windy weather with the snow coming down like no tomorrow haha. I have pictures of it for you guys. :)

We tried to see Curtis (our investigator) but he was in recovery for his surgery.  I'm going to try to see him sometime before I leave though. But we had a great Sunday, ward conference was that day and there were many great talks given throughout our block of meetings. We truly ended our week on a great note. :)

It is now time for me to go home, say goodbye to everyone, and pack. Well I love you all, wish me luck in my new area, and I hope you all have a wonderful week! :)

One Week Until Transfers (Week 23 In The Field)

Okay, so I don't have much time to write a super long letter, so I'll just give you a shorter version of what happened this past week.

  • So we had two big meetings on Thursday and Friday, so I got to see a couple of my MTC buds! Last Monday we went to Garden of the Gods, so I got a lot of pictures for you all! :)
  • Sister Gallegos came home Saturday, and her step son tried to redo her bathroom as a surprise before she came home, but he didn't finish. But that's okay she was so happy anyways, so hopefully he can finish sometime this week.
  • Last thing, on Friday we went to a Hawaiian BBQ for dinner and while we were about to enter, a random lady drove up to us and said she wants to learn about what we believe! We were so excited because that never happens! But unfortunately, she doesn't live in our area, so we will have to give that referral to our zone leaders.
Sorry about how short this is, but I have to get going.  Keep praying for Curtis, he's going into surgery this Thursday to have his toes on his other foot cut off. :/

Anyways, I love you all and miss you so much!

Have a great week! :)

Great Week! (Week 22 In The Field)

Before I start my weekly letter, I just want to give a shout out to my Mom for her Birthday today! Happy Birthday Mom, Love you so much!!!

Anyways, so as I told everybody in my last email, Sister Gallegos left for Utah to help her daughter out with something. So she has been gone the past 2 weeks now, and it has been so lonely without her there. I don't know what I'm going to do if I get transferred, I'm going to miss having her around all the time. But good news is that she comes back this Saturday, I cant wait! :)

Anyways, So this past week has been really interesting. To start, a member takes us to this place called crave Burger, I think I told you about it in my last email but it's this famous Burger joint that sells outrageous burgers! The burger I decided on was the luther, where they replace the buns with 2 glazed donuts! I took pics so you guys can probably check them out on my blog (See below), it's something you won't want to miss! But my companion has been preparing to do their ultimate food challenge called the big bad world! Basically you have to eat these 3 huge burgers with all different kinds of meat such as the burger patty, ham, shredded pork, brisket, and tons of onion shreds on it! You have to eat them in under 45 minutes and if you do, you wont have to pay for the meal which is $25, you get your pic up on the winners wall and get a free t shirt. If you lose, you have to pay and your pic goes up on the loser board. Needless to say, he lost unfortunately, but he was so close! He finished the first 2 burgers in 11 minutes, never have I seen anybody down their food that fast! But he hit the wall on the third one. He just had a few bites left on the third one but he said if he took another bite it would all come back up. :/ I was pretty dang proud of him though for eating as much as he did, what a champ! The worst part was is that we went to go play volleyball with the youth after that. But it ended up being an awesome night! :)

Work has been really tough lately, we have been trying to work with Curtis and get him to come to church but he never feels well. :/ And supposedly he might be moving to Denver for a surgery, please keep him in your prayers, he really doesn't want to.

However we did have a really good lesson with our other investigator, John Rendin! I don't know if I ever told you about him, he investigated the church years ago and we decided to stop by and see if he's ready to receive the gospel now. He loves talking with us, and we just cleared up his questions that he had. It was a good meeting and we are going to meet with him again this Friday! :)

We have also been able to work with a lot of less actives this past week which was really nice. Met a lot of people I haven't met before and not only that but we are having dinner with one of the families tonight! Hopefully we can get them to come to church because they are an awesome family.

Sorry I need to keep this a little short because I'm about to head out to finally see more of colorful Colorado! My companion and I are going to Garden of the Gods with a member in our ward! For those that don't know what it is, it's hard for me to explain just Google image it, its super pretty! :) (http://www.gardenofgods.com/)  I promise I'll get pics for all of you! :D

Anyways, I love and miss all of you and hope you have a great week!
