Long Hard Week (Week 38 In The Field)

So we had a really good week last week. We had a lot of members come with us to our lessons and taught a ton. Not only that, but we also helped a member move almost all day Friday and all day Saturday. We started helping them move Friday at 3 until 10, and on Saturday from 9 to 5. I am so sore from that crazy move, there was a lot of heavy lifting involved. But I am very glad we were able to help them out, they really needed it because they had to be out by the end of the month, and they just found a house that Wednesday before the move. I cannot tell you how thankful they were for our help, it was such a neat experience.

The funniest part of the move was that there was an 8 year old girl there, that followed me around the entire time, both days we were helping them. I think she had a little crush on me, so I got a kick out of that. Turns out her Mom is less active, and she hasn't been baptized yet. Unfortunately, they live in a different ward, but I think since a lot of missionaries were at the move helping, the mom of the girl that followed me really felt the spirit. So who knows, maybe they will come back to church.

The rest of the week was really good, I am really starting to get to know the members in my new ward now and they are all great! There is a kid that just got his mission call to Nampa, Idaho and we were supposed to take him out with us all day Friday but it fell through, well, frankly because he got his mission call the night before and he wanted to spend time with his family. He's such an awesome kid, we are going to go out with him sometime next week when he gets back from Utah.

But, yeah we had the opportunity to take 3 other priests out with us this past week. It was such a good experience for them, and this coming week we will be taking out another priest out with us all day Thursday, so I am super stoked for that.

I am really starting to get to know my companion a lot. He is always cracking jokes, unless we are in a spiritual lesson. But I love him, he is such a hard worker and still knows how to have fun.

In other ways of announcements, we got a new mission president. His name is President Rehm and he just entered the field on Saturday. I haven't met him yet, but we will meet him this coming Wednesday, and we will also have interviews with him the following week. I'm kind of nervous and excited at the same time, but I'm sure he will be great! I will let you know how he is next week.

New Area! (Week 37 In The Field)

I am so excited to be back in the springs, and to be close to people and places again haha. I just feel more at home here. 

So I am going to start off my letter by talking about what happened Wednesday because obviously I spent Monday and Tuesday packing and saying goodbye. So Transfer meeting was held Wednesday at 11. That was the last time I will ever see President Anderson again. It was pretty sad to say goodbye to him but I am sure the new mission president will be just as good, if not better. 

So something really funny happened at transfers. President Anderson usually calls each new missionary to the front to read their first assignment off to the other missionaries. So I'm just sitting there, when I hear, "we will now have the pleasure of meeting Elder Greer and hearing who his new trainer and assignment will be." It cought me off guard at first. I thought President was calling me out for doing something wrong. I was kinda scared haha. But it turns out that there is another Elder Greer that is entering the field. So president actually did call me up to take a picture with him. We all got a kick out of that. 

After that, I met my new companion Elder McGhie, who is so funny, and easy to get along with. I am so thankful to have him as my new comp. So after the meeting, we went to Chili's and I entered my new area. My new area is so nice. Everybody has huge houses in the ward. Mostly because everybody is either a doctor or a dentist. So I'm set on free appointments if I need any haha. I am still trying to get to know the area and people, so not much happened this week. 

We live with an older couple, who are very nice. We have family prayer with them every night, which is really cool. Their names are the Beirs, and they have a huge back yard with a hammock, so I'm thinking of maybe doing our studies in the morning ourside. :) Oh before I forget my new address is:

Just in case any of you want to send me mail. Oh, something interesting happened yesterday. We met a family named the Bradys, they are an active family in our ward that we wanted to set a family mission plan up with. Their son, and now daughter in law, Bret and Hilary, lived in Jacksonville Fl, and apparenly went to the same singles ward as I did! They were like, I know you from somewhere! Then I told them where I was from and they were flipping out haha. Needless to say I had to get a picture with them. She lived in Jacksonville her whole life and he went to school there, and thats how they met. It is a small world haha. 

Anyways, I'm already loving the ward I'm in, and am so excited to work here in my new area. We do a lot of tracting in this area, so that will be fun. Oh, and every night we will come home to so many moths is our room. I don't want them eating my clothes so we catch them and kill them haha.

Well... (Week 36 In The Field)

BIG NEWS everybody!! I am being transferred back to the city! 

I will be in the North part of the springs, in the Cordera ward! I am super stoked about this call. My new companion's name is Elder McGhie. I have never met him before, so I know nothing about him. But I am seriously so excited about this. I will head out tomorrow afternoon and be in my new area by Wednesday afternoon. I am really going to miss the people here a lot. It's always so hard to leave an area when you connect with the people so well. 

Unfortunately I will miss the best part of being in the Valley. Pioneer days. I hear that they go all out during pioneer days here, I was really looking forward to being here for that but I guess the Lord has something else in store for me. I also thought for sure my current companion, Elder Miyamoto, would be transferred due to the fact thats he's been here for a while. But he ended up staying, and I will be going. I am glad at least one of us is staying because sister Vance really loves us haha. She was scared both of us would be leaving her. I am really going to miss teaching her, she's been a lot of fun. 

Other than that, don't really have anything to report on. We had a specialized training this past week Wednesday, up in pueblo so we had to leave on Tuesday for that. Not much teaching happened, but we had a lot of service. The Sisters invited our district to help out in a super hard project. Painting the town's stage. So it's a pretty big stage, and it has taken us multiple days to even get close to finishing it haha. It's been a fun bonding time, but its super hard work.

Rollercoaster Week! (Week 35 In The Field)

Oh boy did this week sure have its ups and downs. So Tuesday morning my stomach started hurting but I kinda disregarded it and carried on with my day. We went out to teach, but the day wasn't to successful and my stomach was killing me. Finally, when we finished all our plans, we came home and I just slept. At the end of the night my stomach was still hurting so I called my ward mission leader, Brother Tibbits, to come give me a blessing. He gave me one of the most powerful blessings I have ever received. We were all crying afterwards. After the blessing I finally got whatever was upsetting my stomach out. Thank goodness.

The next day I felt better, but I was sleep deprived so I stayed in most of that day. I am so thankful to have the power of the priesthood in my life. I know that because of that blessing, my body was able to be healed.

So on Wednesday night we had dinner with an inactive member. We were invited by an active family, the Coombs. They are an amazing family and are truly trying their best to do missionary work. We had a great dinner with the Coombs and the inactive member, Brenda. I think she's only inactive because she takes care of an elderly lady almost 24/7. She is a super nice lady, does genealogy and has a daughter on a mission. Seems like an active member. But during the conversation at dinner the coombs made subtle remarks to her about liquor stores and drinking. So I think she might have a drinking problem. Don't know for sure yet. We are going to try to meet with her again soon now that we know where she lives.

Thursday we went and did family history in the morning. I am sorta starting to get the hang of it, but it's really hard. We have a really good family history consultant here, named sister Stubbs. She really knows how to make it fun and interesting haha. I am trying to find names to take to the temple when I hit my year mark and have my temple Jubile (or however you spell it) with all the elders that I came out with.

After that, got my hair cut and we had service the rest of that day with our district leader and the sisters. Did a bunch of yard work and it was super hot that day so I was dying haha. Later that night we had a lesson with Cheryl. She's still doing really good, and we just finished all the lessons with her so now we are going to jump in and read the Book of Mormon with her. Pretty excited about that. We want to help her gain a solid testimony of it and this church.  She's doing so well, I wish she could get baptized soon. She's given up coffee and everything. We talked to the Bishop and he wants to see more of a consistency to coming to church. She hasn't been lately because she pulled her back, so now she can barely move. She's going to get an X ray done Tuesday, so I'll keep you updated.

On Saturday, I went on exchanges with my district leader in my area. That was really fun and we were able to see a lot of people, and invite them to partake in the ordinations necessary for salvation.

On Sunday we ended the week with a bang. Went out with Brother Tibbitts, and tried to see a bunch of referrals we received from the sisters investigators a while back. We had luck with one. His name is Tio and he was super nice to us the moment we met him. We went in, taught him the restoration, invited him to read and pray about the Book of Mormon to know if its true, and invited him to baptism. He said no on the baptism part, but he did say he would read and pray. The man has a lot of faith and is really interested. The only problem he might have is smoking. His whole place smelt of it, and when we left we smelled like it too. Needless to say, I showered when I got home haha. But hes a nice man and we will be going back to teach him again on Sunday.

Hey Everybody! (Week 34 In The Field)

This past week has been one of our most successful weeks we have had in this transfer! We were able to see a few less actives, former investigators and current investigators. I guess I should start off this letter with the not so good news though. Cheryl will not be getting baptized on June 7th, it is being postponed to another day. Our Bishop will be the one that will have to set the date for her to be baptized. However, she still has a desire to be baptized and come closer to the Savior. We will still work with her and see her as much as possible, we just cant set the baptismal date for her.

Oh and I guess I got one more sad thing to tell you. We found out our other investigator, Ashley Maez, will be moving sometime in the end of June, don't know when. We haven't been able to see her lately, but hopefully tomorrow we can visit with her and set a baptismal date for her before she moves. I figured I would get all the sad news out of the way so I can tell you about the good stuff now. :)

So on Wednesday we had dinner with sister Vance and she made really good enchiladas for us! My second cousin was right, she does make the best!  On Friday our whole zone of 20 missionaries were able to attend Mannassa's youth conference! It was so much fun. The youth was split into 2 groups so we did also, and attended the classes that they had.

After, we all gathered back together in the gym and then each ward in the stake performed a skit based off a scripture. They all weren't very good, but we ended up getting a pretty good laugh out of it. Then the youth split into 5 groups, as well as the missionaries, and we went outside to play games. I was at the kick ball station the whole time which was a lot of fun. Been a while since I've played kick ball. After that we had dinner, they fed us tacos, and the youth prepared for a dance. We had to leave before the dance started but we all had a good time. :)

On Saturday we got a lot of things done. Saw a couple less actives with our ward mission leader. Things just go a lot better when members attend with you to the lessons. And we ran into a former investigator, and set up a return appointment for Wednesday! I am so excited! :)

Anyways those were the highlights of the week. Hopefully this coming week goes just as good if not better! I love you all and want you know know that I am loving it out here. Being a missionary is the best calling you could ever have! :)
