11 Month Mark On The Dot! (Week 46 In The Field)

Holy cow next month I will have been out in the mission field for exactly 1 year! It is so crazy how fast the time flys out here. It feels like just yesterday I entered the field and was being trained how to be a missionary.

And next month I will be able to go the Denver Temple to do some missionary work for those that have past on. In this mission we are allowed, on our year mark, to be able to go out of our mission boundaries and go to the temple as like a "you're half way through celebration" type deal. So next month I'll be able to do that, and see all the Elders I came out with, It'll be like a mini MTC Reunion, I am so excited! :)

So we had a pretty interesting week this past week. So remember the mission prep class we have been teaching every week? Well we invited the youth to invite their friends for them to practice teaching on for their future missions. One of the youth in our ward actually completed the challenge! She asked one of her best friends from school if she could use her to practice teaching on and the non member friend was totally cool with it. So monday night we went to her house to lesson plan with her so she can be prepared to teach a few sections of the restoration. She was a little nervous at first but she ended up doing a great job. We taught her friend the next day and the lesson went really well. She did a great job teaching some parts of the lesson and in the end her friend seemed interested and accepted a copy of the book of mormon. We hope that more of the youth will do this because it is a great way to practice for the mission.

So the rest of the week went kinda slow and we were kinda discouraged, but then Sunday rolled around and that changes quickly. After Church we went to go visit our investigator Lisa who is going through a lot right now. She really isn't progressing and we try so hard with her to get her to understand that reading the Book of Mormon can change her life. We talked with her for like an hour and invited her to watch a video on Mormon channel called the hope of Gods light. It is a really good video about how sometimes we feel like we are abandoned by God during our times when we most need him, but that it takes an act of faith before He just reveals himself to you. I invite anyone who hasn't seen it, to watch it. It is so good. So we really hope that Lisa can relate to this video and help her out.

After, we went to go see a less active family that we have been trying to see for a while now. We finally got in! They have a nine year old son that hasn't been baptized yet, who really wants to get baptized. But we had a really nice lesson with them and we set a date for his baptism on September 20! We will continue to teach him and his family and help him prepare for baptism. We think the parents might come back to church too! We are so excited to be able to work with them further. It truly ended up being a really successful week which makes me really happy. :)

I got to go now but I love and miss you all and want to let you know that I love being a missionary and being able to help others come closer to their Savior! Have a wonderful week everybody!

Pikes Peak! (Week 45 In The Field)

Sorry it took me so long to get to the computer today. This morning we ended up going to the top of pikes peak! Finally Got to have their famous doughnut everyone has been raving about. They were pretty dang good, not going to lie. :)

So we got a ride with bishop and his family, which was really nice of them to do, it was a long trip up. Woke up at 5:30AM, showered and got ready and met them at the church at 7:00AM. It was like an hour and a half drive to the top, and the road to the top got pretty scary. But once you get to the top it is super flat haha. So it was a pretty neat experience, took a whole bunch of pictures which my mom can post online for you all to see, went through the gift shop, of course I had to get a shirt. Not many people can say they have been on top of a 14,000 foot mountain before.

Anyways after we drove back down, got a few more pics on the way, and then went back to the church to pick up our car, go change, and come here to email. So that was my eventful morning. I don't really have to much time to email, but I just want to let you all know that I am alive and well!

We had a pretty interesting week this past week. Didn't really have a whole lot of time to work in our area because we had zone conference on Tuesday, which is an all day long meeting with our mission president. They talked about how we can use 8 year old baptisms for finding more people to teach. We have already started implementing it in our area. There are a couple 8 year olds getting baptized soon, and we invited their families to use it as a missionary opportunity to invite non member friends to come.

On Wednesday we biked to a less active house that apparently lives in our ward boundaries, but I don't think so. It was really far, like a 40 minute bike ride there haha. Needless to say we got all the way there and there was a large gate in front of the house so we couldn't get in haha.

After that, we went to our ward BBQ which was a lot of fun. We invited 2 less active families to it and our investigator, but none of them showed up. :/ It was still a good time though.

On Friday we had zone training, where we talked about how to increase our teaching skills. After, my companion and I decided to blitz the other elder's in our districts area. Basically a blitz is when I go with one elder, and my comp goes with the other, and we all work in their area to help them teach more. It ended up being pretty successful. A lady came up to elder Mogle and I and told us she's searching for something more in her life. So we gave her a Book of Mormon, and invited her to read and pray about it. They now have a potential investigator they can work with!

On Saturday we did service for a school, helped them clean up a little, and after we went on exchanges with the pikes peak YSA elders. One of them is really sick, so they got like no work done in their area this week, so we helped them. My companion stayed with the sick elder, while the other one and I went to do some work in their area. It's weird being in YSA because they cover like 4 zones.

But anyways that was my week this week and I got to go. I love you all and hope you have a good week this week! :)

Service Week (Week 43 In The Field)

Oh man do I have a story to tell you today.

So Thursday night around 6, we get a text from another set of elders nearby, asking if we could help with a move. Probably the most unorganized move I have ever done. It was for a non-member though, so that's good. She's a single Mom with 2 kids and unfortunately she got evicted from her apartment. So she had to get everything out of there that day.

The move took forever because nothing was packed in boxes, and there were only 3 sets of missionaries helping by the time we got there. (That includes us) Oh and she's putting everything into storage units and going to be living out of a motel for now. The poor lady needed a lot of help, and few people were there to help her. We finished the first load by about 10:20, and still had to take another load to the storage units. Oh, and by the way, the trailer we had was small and the units were packed terribly when we got there. It was just a huge mess.

We asked the lady if we could finish it tomorrow because its past our curfew. She said that the trailer needs to be back tomorrow at 5, but she works until 4:30, so it had to be done that night. This lady could not do it on her own. So we told our zone leaders, and they told us to get in as soon as possible because we have this thing in our car called tiwi, and it tracks you where you are, if your driving to aggressively, speeding and all other types of fun stuff haha. So they would know if we are out past curfew  The zone leaders told us do what you feel is right but just know that you will get in trouble for this. We both felt that the right thing to do was to help her, so we did.

We gave the vehicle coordinator a heads up that we will be out late. We didn't end up finishing the move until 1 AM! It took forever and we were so tired the next day. She was EXTREMELY grateful for our help, and we were glad we were able to help her. My companion was a little nervous the next day that he was going to get chewed out, but I told him that if it was the right thing to do, then the lord will take care of it. We took the initiative of calling the APs the next day and telling them what went down. They were totally okay with it. My comp was shocked that his head didn't get chewed off haha. The Lord obviously wanted us to help that lady and good things will come from it I'm sure. Anyways, thats my crazy story.

The rest of the week we spent doing little service projects here and there. We had a really good day on Sunday. We taught a member's non-member boyfriend about eternal families. The parents asked us to because they are thinking about getting married and they want their daughter to get married in the temple. So That lesson went really well. It was very spiritual for the family but the non-member didn't say much. He had the look on his face like he was to cool for this type of stuff, but hopefully he will turn around.

We also taught mission prep class that evening. More and more people keep showing up. It is so exciting! We had a kid from a different stake show up for it haha! Its getting huge! This week we had the kids role play the first vision. Some of them did super well and we gave them the challenge to invite their friends to hear the lessons. It's turning out so well. I'm so excited to see what all sparks from this. The youth are the best missionaries. :) Helping them out has been such a blessing
I got to go now. I hope you all have a wonderful week and know that I love and miss all of you! :)
